A plug holder is a practical solution for storing the charging plug when it is not in use. At the same time, it protects the plug against water and dirt, which reduces the formation of rust.  This fits type 2 plugs. For example, if you use e-Golf type 2 plug and all newer electrical vehicles bought in Europe have this. Installs easily with appropriate screws at a maximum diameter of 5mm.

Do I need a plug holder for a type 1 or a type 2?

Electric cars and plug-in hybrids are delivered with either a type 1 or a type 2 charging connector in the car. This is what determines the kind (type of plug) charging cable you need. When charging from a charging station/ charging box, the charging cable will always have a type 2 plug to the charging station (e.g. public charging posts or stations) and only the plug towards the car will be type 1 or type 2.
