Tesla Smart Box is a charging station which gives dynamic charging with up to 22kW and is developed for private and commercial use. The charging box offers ease of use, comfort and safe charging in accordance with regulations (IEC 61851 and IEC 62955).

 

Dynamic Charging and Load Balancing
Smart box comes with a power sensor that measures power consumption in the house and will automatically adjust the charge according to how much energy is available in the house. This means that you can charge your car with up to 32A/400V/3-phase (22 kW) when the electricity consumption in the house is low.

Automatic Power Distribution
The Smart Box ensures that the main fuse doesn't trip and will always prioritize everyday tasks such as cooking, heating and other types of household consumption. Likewise, the charging station is allocated full power (32A) at night so that you have a fully charged car the following morning.

Normal and Smart Charging Mode

The charging station has two charging modes: 1) Normal and 2) Smart.

Normal mode so you can choose one specific amperage between 6-32A with 1A steps.

Smart mode then the charging station will dynamically charge and adjust the charge according to how much electricity is available in the house, (the main fuse). You can set the minimum (6-16A) and maximum (10-32A), the charging station should dynamically balance the load. The settings are made easily via the buttons found at the front of the charging station. 

 

Practical and Universal Solutions
The Tesla Smart Box charging station is supplied with a fixed charging cable with a type 2 plug. A fixed charging cable makes charging the car convenient and easy. 

The Smart Box is also designed so that the charging cable can be coiled around the charging station for more practical storage of the charging cable. At the same time, the model of the charging station with fixed charging cable has a plug holder integrated in the front of the charging box that protects against water and dirt.

Type 2 plug towards the car has an integrated button and makes charging the car very easy. 

  • Opens the charging hatch by pressing the button
  • Terminates charging and releases the type 2 plug from the car by pressing on the button

The car key must be nearby for the button to work and fits all Tesla models.

The advantage of this solution over a loose cable is that the button pulls power directly from the charging station so there's no need to change the battery.

 

Scalable Ratio
Ratio and Tesla Smart Box supports up to 4 charging stations on one course. You can start with one, and then expand if you need to charge multiple electrical vehicles efficiently.

 

RCD-DD / DC-RCM (Residual current module)
New regulations (the norm, NEK 400:2018-722) require that all new current courses that are to be used to charge electrical vehicles must have an earth fault circuit breaker type B or equivalent DC protection. The charging station has an integrated RCD-DD/ DC-RCM module of 6mA which takes care of the DC protection and means that you do not need earth fault protection type B installed in the fuse box in accordance with IEC 62955. A normal general earth fault circuit breaker (jordfeilautomat) type A will be sufficient

Questions and Answers


Do I have to have earth fault protection Type B on the current course if I install Ratio Home Box with DC-RCM?
No, you do not need to install an earth fault protection Type B on the current course in the fuse box to meet the requirements (NEK 400:2018-722 norm). It will do with a normal circuit breaker/ combi-circuit breaker with Type A on the course. 

What does an electrician need for dynamic charging and load balancing to work at 32A?
1) Suitable cable and course for 32A
2) 4- wire signal cable between sensor box and charging station. If several charging stations are to be connected, just pull the signal cable between the first one and others following.

How do I connect the Ratio Home Box into a 230V / 3-phase power grid?
Below you will find an illustrated example of how to connect the Ratio Home Box to 230V/3-phase mains. The charging station supports 230V/3-phase charging for the Tesla Model 3 and will provide 11kW at 32A/230V/3-phase.

What is a supply cable?
A supply cable is a short cable where one end is mounted in the charging station and the other end is an industrial plug. It allows you to connect this directly to an industrial socket.
